We want to welcome you to First United Methodist Church in Hopewell! We are so glad you are here, and understand that the first time coming to a new church can be a little intimidating. Take a look around this website and get to know more about us. We hope this information will help you to feel more comfortable about visiting! Wherever you are on your faith journey, we are here to welcome you with open hearts, open minds and open doors.

How do I get there?
FUMC is located at the corner of N 6th Ave and W Broadway in Hopewell, VA. Click here for a map and complete directions.

What should I do when I arrive?
Our parking lot is in the rear of the church along N 6th Avenue. Yes, we do have a beautiful front entrance, but over the years we have come to appreciate the convenience of entering the church from the parking lot! You will see a large “ENTRANCE” sign over the door.

Just inside the door, there is a welcoming area with comfortable seating, old church pictures and artifacts, restroom, and a TV displaying pictures of church activities.

You will see signs directing you to the sanctuary or chapel, but there are always lots of friendly people there to help as well!

What should I wear?
You will find a wide variety of attire in our worship services. Some people come dressed in jeans and t-shirts while others come dressed business casual. If you prefer to wear ties or a dress, that's fine too. We invite you to wear what you feel comfortable wearing – what you wear is not important to us, you being here is!

What kind of worship do you have?
We have a traditional worship. There is an intimate, early service at 8:45 am in the small Trinity Chapel accompanied by the piano. There is a larger service at 11am in the Sanctuary on the second floor with a strong choir accompanied on the organ and piano to assist us in worship.

How do I get to the sanctuary or elsewhere on the upper floors or basement if I have trouble with stairs?
There is an elevator that goes to the Fellowship hall in the basement , the first floor (street level) and the second floor where the sanctuary is located. There is a door to the elevator on the 6th Ave side of our Church building, inside the bell tower.
