Welcome to The Well! This is our gathering space for United Methodist Youth Fellowship upstairs in the education wing at First Church. Why “The Well?” Well, we’re glad you asked. There are a few different reasons.
First, in biblical times, the well where people drew water was also a social gathering place where they would meet and talk. Second, we come to this “well” for the water found only in Jesus. Jesus told the Samaritan woman at the well that the water he offers would become in us a spring of water welling up to eternal life. He said that anyone who drinks the water he provides will never be thirsty again. That’s the water we’re most interested in here at First Church. Third – First Church is in the City of Hopewell. If you grew up here, you may know that we sometimes refer to this small city by the river as “The Well.” You’re invited to join us at The Well every Sunday as we seek Jesus and the new life only he can give.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Accountability - Genesis 39:6-9, Psalm 139:7-10
Who are you when nobody's watching? Has your faith changed who you are in your private life? If not, you need to take a hard look at your faith. Just like Joseph's response to Potiphar's wife in Genesis 39, we are always accountable to God, even when no one else seems to care. King David understood - "Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence...If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast." God is never far from each one of us. Never forget it.
A Sunday School class for all teens meets at 9:45 AM in “The Well” youth room on the second floor of the Education wing. The class includes teens in middle school through high school (grades 6 through 12). The youth directors teach the class using diverse teaching methods that appeal to today’s teenagers. Youth activities include Bible study, movies, field trips, and discussion groups to help teens grow in Christian faith and to live as young Christians.
United Methodist Youth Fellowship (UMYF) meetings for middle/junior-high through senior-high teens are led by the youth directors. The youth group meets every Sunday at 12:00 Noon for lunch in the Fellowship Hall. In addition to Bible study and Christian fellowship and recreation, the group works on mission projects throughout the year. Teens are invited to attend for fellowship and fun while growing in faith and service.
